Mutula Kilonzo Jr. on Wednesday evening visited Muthungue Village in Thange Ward, Kibwezi East, to condole with the family of 27-year-old Felix Kimweli Muinde, who tragically drowned at Kimanga Stream.

The young man is reported to have drowned at the seasonal stream located in Thange Ward, sending shockwaves across the local community. His untimely death has once again raised concerns about safety around rivers and seasonal water bodies in Makueni County.

Speaking during the condolence visit, Governor Mutula described Muinde’s death as a heartbreaking loss not only to his family but also to the wider Thange community.
“This is a painful moment for the family and the entire community. We stand with them during this difficult time,” the governor said.
Felix Kimweli Muinde is scheduled to be laid to rest on Friday, March 6, at his home in Muthungue Village.
Governor Urges Youth to Embrace Economic Opportunities
During the visit, Governor Mutula used the opportunity to challenge young people in Kibwezi East and across Makueni County to remain united, support their families, and take advantage of the county government’s 30 per cent procurement reservation for youth, women, and persons with disabilities.

He encouraged the youth to embrace innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship as a pathway to self-employment and economic empowerment.
“Young people must organize themselves into groups and tap into available government opportunities. That is how we build a self-reliant generation,” he added.

The governor was accompanied by County Executive Committee Member for Finance Damaris Kavoi and Thange MCA Erick Katumo.
The drowning incident has sparked renewed calls for increased public awareness on water safety, especially during the rainy season when streams swell unexpectedly.
