The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a detailed statement on the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student Sheryl Adhiambo in Huruma, Nairobi, confirming that investigations are ongoing.

In the statement released on Sunday, police said the incident occurred during an operation responding to a reported robbery in Huruma on Saturday, February 7, 2026. A complainant had reported being attacked and robbed by five young men, leading to the arrest of four suspects in two separate operations.

Police say that during the second arrest, one of the suspects raised an alarm, prompting nearby youths to throw stones and other projectiles at officers. In response, police fired warning shots into the air to disperse the crowd. Shortly afterward, a member of the public, later identified as Sheryl Adhiambo, was fatally injured during the confrontation. The estate reportedly experienced further disturbances, including vehicles being set ablaze.

The NPS confirmed that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has been on the scene since early Sunday, conducting investigations with full cooperation from police.

Authorities appealed to residents to remain calm, desist from acts of violence, and allow accountability processes to proceed.
In its statement, police acknowledged the tragic death and emphasized their commitment to transparency, the rule of law, and accountability as investigations continue.
