Panic gripped Nairobi’s South C area on Friday after a 16-storey building that was under construction collapsed, prompting an emergency response as authorities rushed to the scene.
The incident occurred in the during the night, with eyewitnesses reporting a loud crash followed by a massive cloud of dust as the structure came down. The building was reportedly still under construction at the time of the collapse.

As of publication, the number of casualties remains unknown. It is also unclear how many workers were present at the site when the incident occurred.
Police officers, firefighters, and medical personnel were quickly deployed to the area, where rescue operations are ongoing.

Security teams have cordoned off the scene to allow emergency responders to carry out search and rescue efforts and to prevent members of the public from accessing the site.
The cause of the collapse has not yet been established. However, the incident is expected to reignite concerns over building safety, construction standards, and enforcement of regulations in Nairobi’s rapidly developing residential zones.
County officials and relevant regulatory agencies are yet to issue an official statement, but investigations are expected to begin once rescue operations are completed.

This is a developing story and Channel 15 News will continue to provide updates as more details emerge.
