A fresh wave of controversy has engulfed the family of the late gospel singer Betty Bayo, after her mother, Joyce Wairimu, made explosive allegations questioning the cause of her daughter’s death and the future of her grandchildren. Speaking during an online interview with Shiro wa Oakland, the grieving mother said the family had hoped tensions would ease after the burial, but instead, the situation has grown more complicated.

Wairimu alleged that her daughter did not die from leukemia, as indicated by doctors, but from a head injury she claimed resulted from a violent assault by Betty’s husband, Tash, months earlier. She said the couple had already separated for three months following the incident and expressed shock that Tash flew back from the United States to view Betty’s body despite the separation. She said Betty had called her in distress, claiming she feared for her life.

During the interview, Wairimu also claimed that Tash was unfaithful and described an alleged incident where he reportedly spent a night with another woman on the couple’s matrimonial bed on the eve of Betty’s burial. She further accused him of financially exploiting the singer, claiming he solicited KSh 8 million from her for two trucks in the U.S., before later obtaining an additional KSh 5 million, leaving Betty financially strained in her final months. These issues, she believes, contributed to their final breakup.

The controversy deepened after the burial when the family claimed that earlier agreements regarding the care of Betty’s children, Sky and Danny, were disregarded. According to Wairimu, the family had agreed that Betty’s sisters would take over the children’s care, but Tash refused to hand them over and told the family to go to court if they disagreed. The family is also concerned that Tash reportedly retains Betty’s death certificate and Wairimu’s national ID, causing further complications.

Wairimu appealed to Pastor Victor Kanyari, the biological father of the children, to check on them. She expressed gratitude to him for supporting the children consistently, even after parting ways with Betty, saying he had always been present in providing for their needs.

She is now calling for a postmortem examination to conclusively establish the cause of death and expressed disappointment that close family friend Shiru wa GP has not contacted her since Betty’s passing. The family insists their main concern is the safety and well-being of the children, expressing fear that Tash may not provide a stable home. They also referenced unverified claims that he was absent from the lives of children from a previous marriage, questioning his long-term reliability.

As the allegations continue to circulate and tensions rise, legal experts predict that the matter may head to court for both custody resolution and possible investigative reviews into Betty’s death. For now, fans and the wider public continue to follow the unfolding drama, as the family seeks clarity, justice, and security for the children left behind.
