A suspected drug trafficker’s attempt to smuggle nearly a kilogram of cocaine into Kenya was foiled on Monday after Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives arrested her at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The woman, identified as 34-year-old Muli Ayan Ndunge, had just arrived from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, when detectives acting on precise intelligence moved in and quietly escorted her to the ANU offices for observation.

Moments later, the narcotics she had swallowed began to emerge.

According to investigators, Ndunge expelled 14 pellets of cocaine shortly after being placed under watch. Detectives, suspecting more, maintained close supervision, recovering another 14 pellets, bringing the total to 28 pellets.

The drugs weighed 912.74 grams, with an estimated street value of Sh3.65 million, according to ANU.

A subsequent X-ray scan confirmed her abdomen was clear, sealing the case with clear evidence.

Ndunge remains in custody as detectives prepare to charge her in court for narcotics trafficking — an offence that carries heavy penalties under Kenyan law.

The arrest forms part of an intensified crackdown on drug mules attempting to use JKIA as a transit point into and out of the country.
