Hundreds of students, teachers, clergy, and dignitaries converged at the iconic Our Lady of Protection Museve Shrine for the 2025 Annual Diocesan Education Day, held under the inspiring theme “Catholic Schools: Pilgrims of Hope, Journeying Together in Faith and Renewal.”

The day opened with a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui. In a deeply reflective homily, Bishop Mwongela urged students to nurture ambitious dreams anchored in faith and perseverance. “God answers prayers in His own time—whether today, tomorrow, or even a hundred years from now,” he reminded them. Emphasizing spiritual growth and moral integrity, he cautioned against greed, calling it a force “destroying the world,” and encouraged contentment and trust in God’s timing.

“Have no roof for small dreams,” Bishop Mwongela told the attentive congregation. “Even if something looks beyond your reach, think of how to achieve it—and remember, God will be with you.”

The Bishop also directed strong words to educators, challenging them to rise above mediocrity. “Don’t be bright teachers whose best output is only C minus grades,” he said. “Walk with your students. Help even the weakest reach where they are meant to be.” He further emphasized the value of prayer, urging students to “try kneeling” when they feel overwhelmed by problems.

During the keynote address, Guest Speaker Mr. William Maema inspired students to build their lives on the pillars of faith, discipline, hard work, and delayed gratification. “Talent alone is not enough,” he said. “Your values, not just your skills, will carry you forward.” He urged students to make career choices based on passion rather than monetary pursuit and to embrace self-awareness and emotional intelligence.

Maema also addressed the mental health challenges many young people face, encouraging students to seek help when necessary. “Every challenge is preparing you for something greater,” he said. “And remember—no human being can block the plan God has for your life.”

The colourful event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony, where outstanding schools, teachers, and learners were honoured with certificates and trophies in recognition of their academic and co-curricular achievements.

Also in attendance were members of the clergy and religious orders, the County Director of Education, school principals, representatives from Tangaza University College, and other invited guests.

This year’s Diocesan Education Day not only celebrated academic excellence but also served as a spiritual and moral rallying call for Catholic schools to keep journeying in hope, unity, and faith.
