Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has officially has resigned from his position as a Senior Economic Advisor to the President; says to focus on his personal interests.
Kuria announces quitting the administration marking the end of his nearly two-and-a-half-year tenure in Ruto’s government.
Ending a nearly three-year stint in President William Ruto’s administration. In a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday evening, Kuria revealed that he had met with President Ruto, who accepted his decision to step down.
“This evening I have met my boss and my friend President William Ruto. The President has graciously accepted my decision to resign from government,” Kuria wrote.
The vocal former Gatundu South MP expressed gratitude for the various roles he held in Ruto’s government, including as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry for 11 months, Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management for 9 months, and most recently as Senior Economic Advisor for 10 months.
“As I move on to pursue personal interests, I am proud of the work the President and I did to implement the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda which I designed together with the President as our 2022 electoral platform. Long Live Kenya,” he added.
Kuria’s resignation marks a significant exit of one of Ruto’s earliest and most ardent political allies. He played a pivotal role in crafting the bottom-up economic model that defined the Kenya Kwanza campaign in 2022 and has since been a prominent, if sometimes controversial, figure in the administration.
The announcement comes amid ongoing political realignments and speculation of fresh cabinet changes. Kuria did not elaborate on his next steps, but his mention of “personal interests” has fueled speculation that he may be preparing for a more active role in elective politics ahead of the 2027 General Election.
There has been no official statement from State House at the time of reporting.
