The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced a temporary shutdown of its voter verification portal to allow for scheduled system maintenance.

In a public notice issued Sunday afternoon, the Commission stated that the exercise is part of an ongoing infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving system performance and strengthening data security ahead of upcoming electoral activities.

“This essential maintenance is part of the ongoing migration to new infrastructure aimed at enhancing service delivery through improved system performance and security,” read the statement in part.

The IEBC assured Kenyans that all voter registration records — including data for the 22,120,458 voters registered during the 2022 General Election — remain safe and intact during the upgrade.

“We wish to assure all Kenyans that the registration details… remain secure,” the Commission emphasized.

While the IEBC did not give a specific timeline for the system’s full restoration, it promised to promptly communicate once the portal is back online and ready for public use.

The Commission also expressed regret over any inconvenience caused and encouraged members of the public to rely on official platforms for accurate and up-to-date information.
