The National Liberal Party (NLP) is set to hold its most significant gathering yet, bringing together over 2,000 delegates from 33 county branches at The Woods Hotel in Kitui on Saturday, June 28, 2025. This National Delegates Convention (NDC) marks a defining moment in the party’s steady rise as a serious national contender built on grassroots strength, inclusive leadership, and people-driven policy.

At the helm of this transformation is Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli, a widely respected philanthropist, reformist, and bona fide Anzauni National Patron. Known for his bold leadership and unwavering principles, Dr. Muli has guided the NLP through both internal party-building and national visibility. He rose to political prominence in 2024 when he refused to accept a manipulated IEBC selection process despite winning the panel election fairly—earning admiration for standing firm against political intimidation.

Dr. Muli’s community impact predates his political surge. Through his brainchild Kyalo Kya Maendeleo, he has empowered over 2,000 women by teaching modern basket weaving techniques and securing international markets across Europe and Asia. His reputation as a development-focused, community-first leader is now deeply woven into NLP’s DNA.
What has powered NLP’s success is its strong grassroots network. In a political environment often dominated by top-down decisions and elite-driven narratives, NLP has chosen a different path—one that starts from the villages, wards, and informal settlements, and grows outward. The party has used door-to-door organizing, nyumba kumi clusters, youth and women’s forums, and digital engagement tools to ensure its message isn’t just heard, but shaped by the people.

Today, NLP boasts a presence in over 30 counties—with vibrant units in Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Nairobi, Nakuru, Kilifi, Bungoma, Kisumu, Meru, and more. Its expansion has been fueled by what global political scholars recognize as the power of grassroots: the ability to mobilize communities, build trust, and convert civic engagement into political momentum.
The upcoming National Delegates Convention is more than just a political event—it’s the party’s highest decision-making forum. Delegates are expected to debate and pass critical resolutions, elect key leaders, update party policies, ratify amendments to internal regulations, and solidify NLP’s roadmap toward the 2027 General Election.

Held under the banner of “Maendeleo Kwa Wote”, the NDC will also showcase the success stories of local mobilizers, unveil a revamped party membership system, and reinforce NLP’s call for inclusive development, transparency, and national equity. The choice of Kitui, a symbolic heart of NLP’s journey, reflects both its roots and its readiness for national leadership.
Speaking exclusively to Channel 15 News, NLP Secretary General Omondi Ko’yooo emphasized the scale and significance of the event:
“This is not just a meeting of party officials. It is a celebration of unity, a consolidation of our grassroots energy, and a bold step forward as we prepare to offer a people-first alternative in 2027. Every one of the 2,000 delegates is a torchbearer of real change,” he said.
“Kitui is symbolic. This is where we have grown our movement organically—house by house, village by village—and now, we’re taking it national.”
In recent months, NLP has also gained traction on the national stage. Dr. Muli’s attendance alongside President William Ruto during the 2025 New Year’s national address in Kisii marked a pivotal moment, signaling that the party is no longer operating on the fringes—but at the center of the national conversation.

As the country looks ahead to 2027, the National Liberal Party is sending a clear message: Kenya’s future lies in leadership that grows from the grassroots—honest, inclusive, and development-oriented. With over 2,000 voices coming together in Kitui, the journey toward that future gains powerful momentum.
