In a vibrant and spiritually uplifting ceremony, Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, led Pentecost Sunday celebrations at the Our Lady of Protection Shrine in Museve. The occasion was marked by the commissioning of 70 new members into the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary devotions, drawing congregants from Mutune and Museve Parishes.

The event, rich in liturgical color and deep prayer, reflected the global Christian celebration of Pentecost, which commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles. In his homily, Bishop Mwongela called upon the faithful to remain steadfast in their commitments and emulate Christ’s unwavering faithfulness.

“If you promise something, deliver—just as Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to the disciples and fulfilled that promise,” the bishop said.

The bishop emphasized the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, urging the newly commissioned and all faithful to be firm in their faith, to seek peace and understanding, and to embody the values of Christian witness even in the face of adversity.

“When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, even when insulted or provoked, you do not return evil for evil,” he said. “Be a strong witness—one who can stand boldly and declare, I am a Christian.”

He also made a passionate appeal for unity within the church and the wider community, calling on Christians to pray for a “new Pentecost” that would bring healing to divisions and inspire collective action.

“Let us pray that the Holy Spirit may descend upon us, converting our disunity into unity and helping us to come together and achieve great things for the glory of God,” Bishop Mwongela said.

Touching on the social and political climate, the bishop urged the faithful to become agents of change and to pray for leaders in governance.

“Let us change the face of the earth through our actions. And pray for those in political leadership—that they may have the heart of true service and a genuine desire to serve the good of all people.”

The day’s celebration not only deepened the spiritual life of the Diocese but also reinforced a message of unity, service, and the enduring relevance of Pentecost in the modern world.
