The Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya has been thrown into fresh turmoil after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) issued orders suspending recent leadership changes within the party’s majority wing in Kitui County Assembly.

In a ruling delivered by Vice Chairperson Hon. Gad Gathu on March 26, 2025, the Tribunal temporarily halted the ouster of three senior officials in Kitui County Assembly majority side , marking yet another chapter in Wiper’s ongoing internal power struggles.

The case, filed by Harrison Maluki Mawia, Boniface Mukwate Katula, and another party official, challenged their removal as Leader of Majority, Majority Whip, and Deputy Majority Whip.

In the March 5th communique by Wiper Party to Kitui County Assembly speaker Hon Kelvin Kinengo , Kyuso Mca Hon. Munyoki Mwinzi would take up the role of Majority Leader, while Hon. Dr. Erastus Musyoka Mbuno would assume the the position of Deputy Majority Leader as Township Mca Hon. Daniel Ngoima Kimanzi take Majority Whip seat ,while  Hon. Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka would would deputise him.

The Tribunal has certified the matter as urgent, directing that all parties be served and scheduling a mention for April 2, 2025.

Déjà Vu? Kitui County Assembly Leadership Upheaval Mirrors National Wiper Crisis

This latest court battle closely mirrors recent leadership wrangles within the Kitui County Assembly, where Wiper’s dominance was challenged in a controversial shake-up. As previously reported by Channel 15 News, the Assembly saw a heated contest over the election of a new Majority Leader, a move that exposed deep divisions within the party at the county level. The transition was marked by claims of coercion, lobbying wars, and alleged interference by senior party figures.

With the Kitui Assembly turmoil still fresh, the ongoing national-level battle within Wiper raises questions about the party’s internal democracy and stability ahead of the 2027 elections. The power struggles paint a picture of a party grappling with factional fights, with different camps battling for control.

    Wiper’s Future at a Crossroads

Political analysts warn that Wiper’s persistent infighting, from Kitui to the national stage, could significantly weaken its standing in the run-up to the next elections. “The Tribunal’s intervention is a major setback for the party leadership. It signals growing dissatisfaction and resistance within its ranks,” a political strategist told Channel 15 News.

The Tribunal’s ruling puts the leadership shake-up on hold for now, but the bigger question remains: will Wiper manage to contain these internal divisions, or is the party on the verge of an implosion?

All eyes are now on the April 2 proceedings, where the Tribunal will issue further directions on the case. Stay with Channel 15 News for exclusive updates on this unfolding political drama.
