Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s turbulent reign has come to a dramatic end after the High Court upheld the Senate’s decision to remove her from office, dealing a crushing blow to her fight for political survival.

In a ruling delivered today, the court dismissed Mwangaza’s claims that her impeachment process was chaotic and unconstitutional, stating that the Senate acted within the law. The verdict cements her place in history as the first county boss to be impeached twice within one term and ultimately ejected from office.

    Mwangaza’s Final Blow

Governor Mwangaza had pinned her hopes on the judiciary to overturn the Senate’s decision, arguing that the process was riddled with irregularities and political vendettas. However, the judges ruled that she failed to provide sufficient evidence to support her claims.

“The Senate followed due process as outlined in the Constitution. The petitioner has not demonstrated any procedural violations that would warrant overturning the decision,” the court ruled.

With this judgment, the battle for Meru’s leadership takes a new turn, as the county is now set to usher in a new administration amid deep political divisions.

    What Next for Meru?

Mwangaza’s removal paves the way for Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma to assume office, pending further legal or political maneuvers. However, the ousted governor is unlikely to go down without a fight, with speculation rife that she might take her case to the Court of Appeal or seek a political comeback in the future.

Meanwhile, her supporters have decried the ruling as an orchestrated plot by powerful forces to eliminate her from power, while her critics view it as long-overdue justice for what they term as “a chaotic and ineffective administration.”

As Meru braces for a leadership transition, the question remains: Will Mwangaza bow out quietly, or is this just another chapter in her defiant political journey?
