Kitui County is in high spirits as final preparations for the International Women’s Day celebrations in Miambani Ward, Kitui Central Sub-County, near completion. The grand event, set to take place at Miambani Primary School on March 8, is expected to draw a crowd of at least 1,000 attendees, including top county officials, gender advocates, religious leaders, and renowned performers.

Governor Malombe to Lead the Celebrations

Kitui County Governor Dr. Julius Malombe will be the Chief Guest, joining gender champions and community leaders in marking this year’s Women’s Day. Several gender-related organizations from across Kitui County have also been invited to participate, reflecting the county’s commitment to advancing women’s rights and gender equality.

    Honoring Gender Champions

A major highlight of the celebrations will be the recognition of outstanding gender champions, who will receive certificates of appreciation for their efforts in promoting gender equity, women’s empowerment, and social justice in the county.

Theme: “Inspire Inclusion” – Advancing Gender Equality

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Inspire Inclusion”, aligns with ongoing efforts to create an inclusive society where women and girls are empowered, protected, and given equal opportunities in leadership, education, and economic participation. Kitui County has made strides in gender representation, with several women holding key positions in governance and development programs.

Miambani Set for a Cultural Extravaganza

The event will not only be about speeches and awards—it will also be a vibrant cultural showcase.

Celebrated gospel artists Stella Mengele and Hellena Ken will headline the musical performances, while the Vinda Traditional Dancers will add a touch of authentic Kamba culture to the festivities.

    Final Preparations Complete

The Organizing Committee, chaired by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Gender, Phoebe Ndunyu Mutemi, concluded its final session today, where they were briefed on all logistical and security arrangements. With the venue set and everything in place, Miambani Ward is ready to host one of the biggest International Women’s Day celebrations in Kitui County.

The event will kick off at 9:00 AM, promising a memorable day of empowerment, reflection, and celebration.
