In a scathing attack, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of being the single biggest obstacle to President William Ruto’s success during the first two years of his administration. Murkomen, speaking at a public event, did not mince his words as he lambasted Gachagua’s leadership, accusing him of being more interested in gossip than governance.

“Miaka mbili rais alikuwa mtu anajiita naibu wa rais alikuwa anavuruta watu nyuma wakiwa wanaenda mbele. I have never seen a man who is so committed and dedicated to gossip from morning to evening like the Deputy President we used to have,” Murkomen said, drawing cheers from the audience.
The Interior CS further alleged that Gachagua failed to deliver on the mandate entrusted to him by President Ruto, particularly in the crucial agricultural sectors of tea and coffee. According to Murkomen, instead of working to improve the plight of farmers, the former DP was engaged in schemes to exploit them for personal gain.

“Hakuwa anajua mambo ya chai ama kahawa… I have never seen a leader who has been in office for more than two years and there is nothing Kenyans can remember him for,” he added.

Murkomen went as far as swearing before the church that Gachagua was the most incompetent second-in-command Kenya has ever had since independence. He accused the former DP of sabotaging the government’s efforts, causing internal wrangles, and prioritizing personal political interests over national development.

These remarks come amidst escalating tensions between President Ruto’s allies and Gachagua, who has recently been vocal in his criticism of the government. Murkomen’s fierce rebuke signals a growing rift within Kenya Kwanza, with political realignments already beginning to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections.
