Kisasi Market in Kitui Rural Constituency, Kitui County, was the scene of a horrifying accident today that claimed three lives following a devastating head-on collision between a 15-seater Kinatwa-Prestige Sacco matatu and a TukTuk.

The tragic accident occurred along the notoriously dangerous Kitui-Kibwezi Road, a black spot that has seen numerous lives lost in recent months. According to preliminary reports, the TukTuk was en route to Ikanga Town when it collided head-on with the speeding matatu, leaving a scene of twisted metal and scattered debris.

Eyewitnesses described the crash as catastrophic, with both vehicles reduced to mangled wreckage. “The impact was so severe that rescue efforts took hours, with some victims trapped in the wreckage,” said a shaken bystander.

The exact cause of the accident remains unclear, but early indications suggest one of the vehicles may have been attempting to overtake recklessly. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident as the injured were rushed to Kitui County Referral Hospital, with some in critical condition.

The tragedy has once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter road safety measures along the Kitui-Kibwezi corridor, which has become a death trap for motorists and pedestrians alike. Residents are now calling on the government to intervene and address the rising number of accidents in the region.
