Police in Kirinyaga County have arrested a 40-year-old woman suspected of fatally stabbing her lover during a Christmas Day altercation at a bar in Muragara Trading Centre, Ndia Sub-County.

The suspect, identified as Edith Muthoni, is accused of killing Peter Mwangi Wanyeki, 52, following a dispute that reportedly broke out at a local entertainment joint after the two spent much of the day together.

According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, the confrontation began as a heated argument over a Sh60 alcohol bill before quickly escalating into violence.
Witnesses said the disagreement turned physical, causing panic among patrons inside the bar.

During the altercation, Muthoni is alleged to have pulled out a sharp object and stabbed Wanyeki, inflicting serious injuries.
The victim was rushed to a nearby health facility, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers from Ndia Sub-County responded to the incident and arrested the suspect at the scene.

She is currently being held in custody as detectives record statements from witnesses and process the case.

The body of the deceased has been moved to a mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have cautioned members of the public against excessive alcohol consumption, especially during the festive season, noting an increase in alcohol-related violence during holidays.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
