Shock has gripped the University of Nairobi community after a heated argument over bathroom use turned deadly, leaving one student dead and another behind bars.

Police in Kikuyu have arrested Justus Otieno, a third-year student, on suspicion of fatally stabbing his roommate, Brian Wambui, during a quarrel that escalated over who should flush and clean their hostel toilet.

Witnesses say the disagreement, which appeared petty at first, spiraled out of control, ending in violence that has left fellow students shaken. Wambui succumbed to multiple suspected stabbing injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after the attack.

His body has been transferred to PCEA Thogoto Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination as investigators piece together the events leading to the tragedy.

Otieno is currently being held at Kikuyu Police Station and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. Police have described the case as a shocking example of campus disputes taking a deadly turn.
