In a strategic move aimed at deepening women’s political engagement and empowerment across the Ukambani region, the UDA Party’s Directorate of Women Affairs led by Director Margaret Ndanyi on Monday held a consultative meeting with officials from the Passionate Women Organisation.

The closed-door meeting brought together women leaders from Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni counties under the leadership of Passionate Women Organisation founder Teresiah Kaindi Muli and National Chairperson Mary Kivulu.
Key on the agenda was the forging of a working partnership between the ruling party’s women wing and the community-rooted organisation, focusing on Civic Education, Capacity Building, and structured empowerment programs targeting women at the grassroots level.

Speaking after the meeting, Ndanyi emphasized the need to invest in women’s knowledge of governance processes, noting that civic awareness is central to strengthening democratic participation. “We believe that informed women are empowered women. This engagement is part of our broader vision to ensure that no woman is left behind in the political and socio-economic transformation of this country,” she said.

On her part, Teresiah Kaindi Muli lauded the initiative by the UDA Women Directorate to engage community-based actors, saying the collaboration marks a major step in amplifying women’s voices, especially in rural counties.
Mary Kivulu, the National Chairperson, reiterated the organisation’s readiness to mobilize and mentor women across the three counties to take up leadership positions and drive change from the bottom up.

The meeting comes at a time when political parties are being challenged to move beyond tokenism and actively invest in meaningful structures that support women’s leadership and capacity development.
