A night of terror unfolded along the busy Nakuru–Eldoret Highway after a truck driver ferrying high-value coffee was brutally murdered in what police believe was a well-coordinated robbery attack.

The driver, Musyoki Kilundo, 42, was found dead and hanged from a tree in the Burnt Forest area, hours after his truck was intercepted during a night journey. His cargo — coffee valued at approximately Ksh 8 million — is missing.

Channel 15 News has obtained a graphic video reportdely showing Kilundo’s lifeless body hanging from a tree at the scene, a chilling clip that has been handed over to investigators. Due to its disturbing nature, the footage will not be published.

According to preliminary police reports, Kilundo was transporting coffee along the Nakuru–Eldoret corridor when unknown assailants attacked him under the cover of darkness. His truck was later found abandoned, with the coffee consignment gone, raising fears that the killing was directly linked to the theft.

Family members said Kilundo had spoken to his wife earlier in the day and raised no alarm, making his sudden disappearance deeply troubling. When attempts to reach him later that night failed, a search was launched, culminating in the grim discovery.

Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) say they are treating the case as murder and robbery, with a focus on possible organized criminal gangs targeting trucks ferrying valuable cargo at night. Detectives are also probing how the attackers managed to access and remove the coffee without immediately triggering alarms.

The killing has sparked outrage among transporters and drivers’ unions, who warn that the Burnt Forest–Mau Summit stretch has increasingly become a danger zone, especially for night travel.

Industry players are now calling for enhanced police patrols, tighter cargo monitoring, and a review of night transportation of high-value goods.

As investigations continue, Kilundo’s family is demanding justice, even as colleagues mourn a man described as hardworking, humble, and dedicated to providing for his family.
