Kenya is in mourning following the passing of Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa, the father of Senate Speaker Amason Jeffah Kingi. The nation stands in solidarity with Speaker Kingi, as tributes pour in from leaders, dignitaries, and citizens remembering the late Mzee Mwaruwa’s legacy.

Speaker Kingi, visibly moved, announced the somber news in an emotional statement. “Am completely broken, Dad. May the Angels open the Gates of Heaven and welcome another Angel with a dance just like we did at Mjanaheri. Until we meet again.”

Mzee Mwaruwa, born in Kamale village, Kilifi County, lived a life marked by resilience and struggle. Raising over 40 children with five wives, he overcame economic hardships and security threats, including those from the defunct ‘mashifta’ terror group. His deep commitment to his family’s welfare saw him sacrifice his own needs to ensure his children accessed education—a vision that bore fruit when his son, Amason Kingi, rose to become Kilifi Governor and later, the Speaker of the Senate.

The announcement of Mzee Mwaruwa’s passing has drawn widespread condolences from various leaders:

Aisha Jumwa, Chairperson, Kenya Roads Board
“My thoughts and prayers are with Rt. Hon Amason Jeffah Kingi EGH, Speaker of the Senate, following the passing of your dear Father, Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa. May you find the strength and grace to bear this loss, and may the Lord grant Mzee eternal rest.”

    Kilifi Governor Gedion Mung’aro
“Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa, we will surely miss you. To my dear friend Rt. Hon Amason Jeffah Kingi EGH, my heart is heavy with the passing of your father. May you find the strength you need during this challenging time. Remember, you are not alone in this. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family, relatives, and friends as we navigate through this difficult period. May his soul rest in peace 🙏🏼”

As funeral arrangements get underway, Mzee Mwaruwa’s story remains a source of inspiration—a testament to perseverance, sacrifice, and the power of education. The entire nation mourns alongside the Speaker, celebrating the life of a man whose legacy will be remembered for generations.
