A 35-year-old TukTuk driver has tragically lost his life following a horrific crash with a speeding Probox along the busy Thika-Garissa Highway.

The accident, which occurred near Matuu, has left residents in shock as yet another life is lost due to reckless driving on one of Kenya’s most dangerous highways.

Confirming the incident to Channel 15 News via phone, Katulani Subchief Antony Kyalo revealed that the ill-fated Probox was dangerously overtaking the TukTuk when its driver lost control. The vehicle veered off the road, slamming into the three-wheeler with devastating force, killing the TukTuk driver on the spot.

By the time authorities arrived, the wreckage of the TukTuk lay in ruins, a grim reminder of the perils posed by reckless motorists. Matuu Police officers processed the scene before transferring the deceased’s body to Mbaku Mortuary.

The tragic accident has sparked fresh concerns about road safety along the Thika-Garissa Highway, notorious for frequent crashes, many of which are attributed to overspeeding and dangerous overtaking.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, emphasizing that reckless driving continues to claim innocent lives. Meanwhile, investigations are underway to establish whether the Probox driver was under the influence or if any other factors contributed to the fatal crash.

This heartbreaking incident adds to the growing list of road fatalities in the region, further highlighting the urgent need for stricter traffic enforcement and responsible driving.
