A cloud of grief hangs over a family in Gatundu North after a tragic incident in Samburu County claimed the lives of a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer and his wife just a day after they reportedly spent a joyful day together.
The officer, identified as Daniel Mburu, is said to have treated his wife Eunice Waruguru to a memorable outing on Friday, with friends and relatives describing the couple as cheerful and seemingly happy.

According to reports, Mburu spent the day in high spirits, taking his wife out and enjoying quality time together before they later retired for the night.
However, tragedy struck the following day when the couple travelled to the Baragoi area in Samburu County. Authorities say Mburu allegedly shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself in a shocking murder-suicide incident.

The heartbreaking development has left family members and friends struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss, especially given the couple’s seemingly joyful moments just hours earlier.
Their three-year-old daughter survived the tragedy after she had been left behind with her grandmother at the Kanjuku area in Gatundu North.
Relatives say preparations are currently underway to lay the two to rest as the family grapples with the devastating loss.

The incident has also reignited conversations about mental health and domestic conflicts within families, with many expressing shock over how quickly a seemingly normal day turned into tragedy.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
