Detectives in Kiambu Sub-County have broken up a daring kidnapping plot in Ruaka, rescuing a badly injured victim and arresting five suspects believed to be behind the crime.

The ordeal began when the victim’s girlfriend called his phone, only for a strange voice to answer with a chilling demand: Sh500,000 ransom for his safe release. Alarmed, she alerted authorities, setting detectives on a swift intelligence-led pursuit.

Their operation led them to Ithanga, where the victim was found bloodied, with visible injuries and a shirt stained in blood. Soon after, officers pounced on the suspects—Sydney Ezra Achanda, John Louise Omondi, Enock Sum Cheruyot, Peter Kanini Mwangi, and Lucy Sara Muhonja—outside Quickmatt, Thindigua.

Two getaway cars, a Suzuki Swift (KDD 841D) and a Mazda Demio (KDP 468Y), were seized. A search of the vehicles uncovered a kitchen knife, ten assorted mobile phones, and a tablet—items investigators believe were instrumental in the kidnapping scheme.

By the time of their arrest, the gang had already extorted Sh68,000 from the victim’s family. The five are now in custody, awaiting formal charges in court.
