A 31-year-old South African woman is at the centre of global attention after reportedly developing a rare medical condition that causes rapid ageing, dramatically changing her appearance and health within just a few years.

According to reports by South African media outlet , Sinenhlanhla Khoza from Khulwa village developed normally through childhood and early adulthood before her condition reportedly worsened at around the age of 27.

Khoza is now said to appear significantly older than her actual age, with visible symptoms including thinning skin, severe wrinkles, hair loss, and ongoing health complications that have affected her daily life.

Medical experts believe she could be suffering from Werner Syndrome, an extremely rare genetic disorder associated with mutations in the WRN gene, which is responsible for repairing damaged DNA in the body.

Often referred to as “adult progeria,” the condition affects approximately one in every one million people worldwide. Patients commonly experience accelerated ageing symptoms alongside illnesses such as diabetes, cataracts, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular disease.

Despite medical suspicions, Khoza has reportedly not yet received an official diagnosis through advanced genetic testing. There is currently no cure for Werner Syndrome, with treatment mainly focusing on managing symptoms and slowing complications linked to the disorder.

Health experts say documented cases of Werner Syndrome in Africa remain exceptionally rare, making Khoza’s case medically unusual and significant.

Her story has since gone viral on social media platforms, attracting sympathy and support from many users across the world. However, experts have also raised concern over misinformation and harmful speculation circulating online regarding her condition.
