A 26-year-old man from Ngomeni in Mwingi is fighting for his life at Mwingi Level 4 Hospital after he was reportedly bitten by a deadly black mamba while relieving himself at a pit latrine within his homestead.

The shocking incident, which has left residents in disbelief, occurred in Ngomeni area of Mwingi, Kitui County.

According to a reliable source familiar with the matter, the young man walked into the pit latrine unaware that a black mamba had slithered inside and was hiding in the dark corners of the structure.

Moments later, he was allegedly attacked — with the venomous snake striking his private parts.

His screams are said to have alerted family members, who rushed to the scene and found him in excruciating pain. He was immediately rushed to Mwingi Level 4 Hospital where he is currently receiving emergency treatment.

Medical sources indicate that the victim was attended to swiftly, with anti-venom administered to counter the effects of the highly toxic black mamba venom — one of the deadliest snake species in Africa.

Residents have since raised concerns over increasing cases of snakes seeking shelter in homes and pit latrines, especially during dry and hot seasons.

Local leaders are now urging residents to exercise extreme caution and inspect pit latrines before use, particularly in snake-prone areas.

The condition of the victim remains unclear as of the time of publication.
