A tragic accident in Ngoluni, Mbooni Sub-County, Makueni County, has left six people feared dead, including three students who had just completed their KCSE exams.

The matatu was stationed at the Ngoluni stage, waiting for passengers, when a lorry transporting construction materials veered off the road and crashed into the vehicle, crushing those nearby. Among the feared dead are the KCSE leavers, whose families are still in shock, and three other individuals believed to be passengers or bystanders.

Police Commander Ibrahim Karani confirmed the incident, noting that rescue operations were underway and that officers were working to establish the full number of casualties.

Rescue teams and police rushed to the scene to recover the bodies and provide assistance to anyone injured. Preliminary reports suggest that the lorry may have been speeding, but authorities have promised a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Residents of Ngoluni expressed deep grief over the tragedy, describing it as a devastating blow to the community. “These were children who had just completed their national exams. This is heartbreaking for their families and the entire area,” one local lamented.

The incident has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of road safety, particularly for heavy vehicles transporting construction materials through rural towns, as authorities continue confirming the identities of all victims and urging motorists to exercise caution on Mbooni roads.
