A village in Mwala has been left in shock after a 25-year-old man was arraigned at Wamunyu Law Courts on charges of raping a 72-year-old woman in a horrifying incident that has sparked outrage among residents.

Mutisya Kioko, the suspect, appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Pascal Eugene Nabwana, where he faced allegations of sexually assaulting the elderly woman on the night of March 16 in Kitange Village, Mwala Location. The brutal attack not only left the elderly victim traumatized but also nursing serious injuries.

During his court appearance, Kioko vehemently denied the charges, maintaining his innocence. Despite the gravity of the accusations, he was granted release on a Ksh 200,000 cash bond, a decision that has triggered mixed reactions from the public, with some questioning whether justice is being served adequately for the elderly victim.

The court has scheduled the hearing for April 2, 2024, when the prosecution is expected to present its evidence against the accused. Meanwhile, the victim continues to receive medical attention, as authorities assure the public that justice will be pursued to the fullest extent.

This case has reignited discussions on rising cases of sexual violence against vulnerable individuals, with calls for stricter laws and harsher punishments for perpetrators. Residents of Kitange Village have vowed to follow the case closely, demanding swift justice for the elderly woman.

As the trial date approaches, all eyes will be on the Wamunyu Law Courts to see how this shocking case unfolds.
