Milimani Law Courts, Nairobi – The gospel music scene was rocked on Thursday as flamboyant singer Alex Nyachonga Apoko, famously known as Ringtone, was dramatically arraigned in court over a sensational Ksh 50 million land fraud case that has gripped the capital.
Ringtone, often in the limelight for his flashy lifestyle and controversial statements, appeared alongside co-accused Alfred Juma Ayora to face three serious criminal charges tied to an alleged plot to swindle Nairobi businesswoman Terresia Adhiambo Odhiambo out of prime land in Karen, one of the city’s most affluent suburbs.

According to the prosecution, the duo is accused of conspiring to fraudulently claim ownership of land parcel NAIROBI/BLOCK 99/142, approximately 0.1908 hectares, by invoking adverse possession—a legal principle requiring at least 12 uninterrupted years of occupation, which they allegedly fabricated.
Shockingly, the charge sheet further states that on February 28, 2023, the two swore a false affidavit before a Nairobi-based advocate, S.M. Katonya, claiming that Ringtone had lived on the land for over 20 years—a blatant lie, according to investigators.

Adding fuel to the fire, the prosecution accused them of forgery and perjury, triggering gasps in the packed courtroom as the details emerged.
Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego dealt a heavy blow to the celebrity gospel artist by denying him bail until Monday, when the court is expected to rule on his formal application for release. Dressed sharply but appearing visibly tense, Ringtone stood silently in the dock as the charges were read.
The unfolding drama has left fans and critics divided, with some expressing disbelief over the allegations and others demanding accountability.
This latest scandal adds to the growing list of public figures tangled in high-profile legal battles, raising questions about the intersection of fame, faith, and fraud in Kenya’s entertainment industry.
