President William Ruto has escalated his criticism of opposition leaders, accusing them of lacking clear policies, development plans, and a proven leadership record, instead relying on protest slogans and personal attacks to gain political mileage.
Speaking on This at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County during the Governor Fernandes Barasa Cup final, the President challenged the united opposition to present tangible development achievements, urging Kenyans to judge leaders by their track record rather than political rhetoric.
“Kila kiongozi akuje na record yake. Mimi niko tayari kuja na record yangu hapa Kakamega. Niliwaambia wale jamaa waache maneno matupu, watafute sera, watafute mpango, watafute maono. ‘Wantam Kasongo must go’ haitoshi,” President Ruto said.

The Head of State dismissed opposition leaders as unprepared to govern, arguing that they have failed to articulate a convincing agenda for the country or demonstrate meaningful development outcomes from their past leadership roles.
Ruto Takes Aim at Kalonzo Musyoka
In a direct attack on Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, President Ruto questioned his presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election, accusing him of failing to deliver development even in his own backyard.

“Hata barabara ya kwenda kwake hajafanya. Ya Kakamega atapanga saa ngapi?” Ruto posed, drawing loud reactions from supporters.
Kakamega Pledges Political Support
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa assured the President of the county’s backing, declaring Kakamega firmly aligned with Ruto’s leadership and development agenda.
“Nataka kukuhakikishia kwamba Kakamega iko locked. Usijali. Tafuta kura kule kwingine. Hapa uko sawa,” Barasa said.
Development Promises at Bukhungu Stadium
As part of promoting his development record, President Ruto announced plans to upgrade Bukhungu Stadium to a 25,000-seater facility by the end of the year, including the installation of a canopy to shield fans from rain.
President Ruto’s remarks come amid heightened political activity as both government and opposition camps begin early mobilization ahead of the 2027 General Election, with development records and governance performance emerging as key campaign battlegrounds.
