National Liberal Party leader Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli has claimed that Raila Odinga’s failed bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship is a blessing in disguise for Kenya. Speaking from Addis Ababa, where he attended a high-profile dinner at the Sheraton Hotel alongside President William Ruto and Odinga, Muli asserted that Raila’s energy will now be fully dedicated to Kenya’s political landscape.

“Now that Raila is not going to AU, he will be free to give all that energy to Kenya. So we have not lost as a country; we have actually gained,” Muli stated.

His remarks add a fresh twist to the post-election discourse, as Raila’s return to domestic politics could reshape the 2027 succession battle. Meanwhile, President Ruto, in his earlier statement, congratulated the new AU leadership and pledged Kenya’s continued support, signaling a strategic shift in the country’s continental diplomacy.

With Raila back in the national arena, the political landscape is set for heightened activity. The question now is—what next for Kenya’s veteran opposition leader?
