The Ministry of Health has confirmed that 12,704,548 Kenyans have already registered for the newly launched Social Health Authority (SHA). The number includes verified members who were previously under the now-defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and have successfully transitioned to the new system.

According to Health Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai, the announcement comes as Sunday marks the sixth day since SHA’s rollout on October 1, 2024. Kimtai noted that the quick uptake highlights the government’s push to ensure that all Kenyans have access to quality and affordable healthcare under the SHA system.

The SHA is designed to replace NHIF and enhance healthcare accessibility for Kenyans, particularly in underserved areas, by providing a more streamlined and comprehensive health insurance service.
