Outrage and tension continue to simmer in Huruma Estate, Nairobi, following the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Sheryl Adhiambo, a first-year student at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
The incident occurred on Saturday shortly after Sheryl returned home from college, where she had just completed her examinations.
She was helping her mother at a local fish kiosk when she was shot under circumstances that remain unclear.
Throughout Sunday, Huruma remained under heavy police watch, with officers firing rounds and deploying tear gas to disperse gatherings as residents attempted to converge near the scene.
The show of force heightened anxiety within the densely populated estate, forcing many residents to stay indoors.
Sheryl’s killing has sparked widespread anger among locals, who describe her as an innocent student whose life was cut short at the start of her medical training. Residents have demanded accountability, calling for swift action against those responsible.
Police say investigations into the shooting are ongoing, with efforts underway to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and to identify the officer who fired the fatal shot. By Sunday evening, no arrests had been announced.
As investigations continue, Huruma remains tense, with residents insisting that justice must be served for Sheryl Adhiambo and her grieving family.
