A wave of online backlash has followed remarks by Kitui-based activist and politician Musili Kauta after he described Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as a “paper tiger,” igniting debate across social media platforms.
In comments that quickly gained traction, Kauta questioned Kalonzo’s ability to mount an independent presidential campaign, arguing that unlike other political figures who have led solo national tours, the former Vice President appears strongest when flanked by political allies.

The remarks triggered swift reactions, with a majority of users defending the Wiper leader. Supporters described Kalonzo as a seasoned political figure whose strength lies in coalition-building and strategic partnerships rather than solo political mobilization.
Some pointed to his long-standing role in Kenya’s opposition politics, saying his influence cannot be reduced to campaign optics.
Others dismissed the activist’s comments as politically provocative and timed to stir tensions within Ukambani leadership dynamics.

However, a minority of online voices echoed Kauta’s sentiments, suggesting that Kalonzo must sharpen his independent visibility and messaging if he intends to mount a strong presidential bid as the 2027 political season gradually approaches.
The exchange reflects growing political undercurrents within the opposition as leaders test narratives and position themselves ahead of anticipated realignments.
