National Liberal Party (NLP) leader Dr. Augustus Muli on Tuesday led political parties in paying a heartfelt tribute to former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as “the Father of Devolution and a fearless defender of democracy.”
Delivering a powerful speech on behalf of the country’s political formations, Dr. Muli hailed Raila as a statesman whose sacrifices shaped Kenya’s democratic path — from the fight for multiparty democracy to the enactment of the 2010 Constitution.

“There are not enough words to describe how great a man Raila Odinga was,” Dr. Muli said. “From the battle for constitutional reform to the relentless pursuit of justice, Baba’s footprints mark every turning point in our national story.”
Dr. Muli praised Raila for his courage to stand up to authoritarianism “when it was dangerous to do so,” turning “prison walls into classrooms of conviction,” and inspiring generations to believe in a freer, fairer, and more just Kenya.

Call to Immortalize His Legacy
Flanked by leaders from various political outfits, Dr. Muli urged both county and national governments to find lasting ways to honor Raila’s memory.

“Let all County heads unite and find a way to honor our hero — even if it means erecting statues of Raila Odinga, the Father of Devolution, in all County headquarters,” he said. “Without him, devolution would not exist in Kenya today.”
He also called on the National Assembly to enshrine Raila’s name among Kenya’s national heroes — alongside Dedan Kimathi and Jomo Kenyatta — in recognition of his lifelong commitment to democracy and freedom.

Dr. Muli further appealed to President William Ruto to implement the NADCO Report, saying it represents Raila’s final dream of a “reconciled, reformed, and renewed Kenya.”
Nation in Mourning
Addressing Raila’s family, Dr. Muli expressed the nation’s deep sorrow and gratitude:

“To his family, we extend our deepest condolences and our heartfelt gratitude for lending us such a son — a man who became a father to the nation. In mourning him, we must also honor him — not in word alone, but in deed.”
He closed with a reflection on Raila’s indelible mark on Kenya’s history:

“Raila Odinga’s story is the story of Kenya itself — courageous in adversity, patient in struggle, and unyielding in hope.
He gave us not perfection, but perseverance. Not ease, but endurance.
And in doing so, he gave us a legacy no death can silence.”
“May the Father of Devolution rest in peace.
May his vision guide us still.
May Kenya never forget the man who taught her how to dream in defiance.”
