A Nairobi man accused of violently assaulting and robbing comedian Carren Chepchumba, popularly known as Bella Comedy, during the Kutit Cultural Festival at Carnivore Gardens has been charged in court.
Bernard Kipkosgei Koyumi, alias Pavillion Motiryot, appeared before the Kibera Law Courts where he faced two counts — robbery with violence and assault causing actual bodily harm.

The prosecution told the court that on August 9, 2025, at around 8:00 p.m., the accused attacked Ms. Chepchumba at the Carnivore Grounds in Lang’ata, Nairobi. He allegedly robbed her of Ksh 30,000 in cash and a Redmi 14 Pro smartphone valued at Ksh 26,000, before assaulting her with kicks and blows. The attack reportedly left her with multiple injuries to her leg, stomach, and chest.
Court documents indicate that Bella Comedy had been attending the cultural event earlier that evening, mingling with fellow content creators, enjoying music, and filming online content when she encountered the accused.
Mr. Koyumi denied the charges before Principal Magistrate C.M. Njagi and was released on a Ksh 500,000 bond. The matter will be mentioned on August 18, 2025.
