The heartbreaking saga of a missing body has finally come to a resolution. The family from Zombe, Kitui East Constituency, who were forced to postpone the burial of their beloved Mwove Kivusa after his body vanished from Kitui Level 4 Hospital Mortuary, can now breathe a sigh of relief. In a dramatic twist, the body has been found in Nthongoni, Lower Yatta, bringing an end to their distress and allowing them to proceed with final rites.

Speaking exclusively to Channel 15 News, the grief-stricken family from Makutano Ma Kwa Mbaya area finally has something to rejoice after their loved one, identified as Mwove Kivusa, was found. The body had been wrongly buried in Lower Yatta, prompting the family to seek legal intervention.

A court issued an order for the exhumation, and to their disbelief, the body of Mwove Kivusa was recovered from an unintended grave. The body, which had been buried last week on Thursday, was successfully exhumed and taken back to Kitui Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it was positively identified and handed over to the rightful family for final rites.

“We are relieved but still in shock. How did this happen? How was our loved one’s body mistakenly buried by another family? We demand accountability,” a family member shared with Channel 15 News.

Earlier, the family had decried gross negligence and unprofessionalism from the mortuary attendants and hospital administration after being presented with the wrong body. Their attempts to seek explanations from Kitui County health officials, including Chief Officer Benson Musyoka, went unanswered.

Shock and Disbelief in the Community

The shocking incident has sent waves of concern across Kitui County, raising questions about the integrity of the hospital’s mortuary operations. The family now demands immediate intervention from county authorities to prevent such mishaps in the future.

As the family finally prepares to give their loved one a dignified send-off, the case raises critical concerns over the management of the county’s health facilities. How did this mix-up occur? Who is responsible? Authorities are now under pressure to investigate this alarming case and ensure justice for the grieving family.

Channel 15 News will keep following up on this story to uncover the full truth behind the disappearance and misplacement of Mwove Kivusa’s body.
