The protest organized by Gen Z Mwingi chapter blames Malombe’s government of failure to deal with an escalating water crisis, sandstorms, and improper sewage and garbage disposal in Mwingi Town.
The protest which will start at Kitui Town will see 1000 donkeys carrying empty water Jerricans lined up all the way to governors office , as the local residents seek answers to the existing water scarcity which has not been addressed for the last one decade plus years of devolution governance.
The organization of the protest seem to have taken another turn after it was supported by a local group dubbed Mwingi Town today, which is now calling for a protest at Governor Malombe’s office to demand immediate tackle to the perennial water shortage in the area.
“Salamu zifikie Kimwasco na Malombe.
There is acute water scarcity in Mwingi town right now. Since the beginning of this year the residents have scarcely had running water. Kimwasco continues to collect 580/ a month – standing charge.
Even in good times, Kimwasco pumps 2800 cubic meters per day but the demand is 10,000 cubic metres per day.
Besides settling the pending electricity bill, the County Government needs to expand the infrastructure to meet the expanding demand for water.
