Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has lashed out at Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr., accusing him of continually disparaging his role in the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. In a heated response, Mutuse alleged that Governor Kilonzo Jr. scored a D in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, despite having repeated Form 4 several times.
The lawmaker’s claims come amid escalating tensions between the two leaders, with Mutuse accusing the Governor of making personal attacks against him for leading the charge on Gachagua’s impeachment. “Governor Kilonzo Jr. has no moral high ground to criticize me when his own academic history is questionable,” Mutuse remarked during a public address. He added that he could provide evidence to back his claims.
Governor Kilonzo Jr., a well-known lawyer and politician, has yet to respond to these allegations. His opposition to Mutuse’s impeachment motion has stirred political waves, with Kilonzo Jr. previously calling the move politically motivated and lacking substance.
The impeachment motion against Gachagua has become a divisive issue, with various political figures weighing in. While Gachagua’s allies have dismissed it as a baseless attack, others, like former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, have suggested that Gachagua’s potential replacement should come from outside Mt. Kenya to foster national unity.
The brewing conflict between Mutuse and Kilonzo Jr. adds a new dimension to the impeachment debate, raising questions about the personal and political motivations driving this high-stakes battle in Kenya’s political landscape.
