In a shocking accident along the Machakos-Mombasa Highway today, several passengers were left seriously injured after an Umowa Sacco matatu rolled multiple times in a desperate bid to avoid a head-on collision with a speeding private car. The incident occurred in the Maanzoni area, leaving the injured with broken limbs and severe trauma.
According to a witness who spoke exclusively to Channel 15 News, the Umowa Sacco matatu was forced to swerve off the road after the private car suddenly lost control and veered into its path. In a terrifying moment, the matatu rolled several times before coming to a halt. Passengers, some of whom sustained critical injuries, were swiftly rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for emergency treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.
This latest accident serves as a chilling reminder of the growing dangers on Kenya’s roads. It comes just as the Ministry of Transport, through the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), has issued a stern warning to drivers to remain vigilant during the upcoming festive season, as road accidents continue to escalate. Authorities are urging all motorists to exercise caution, especially during the busy holiday period when traffic volumes are expected to rise dramatically.
