The Kitui County Assembly has unanimously approved the appointment of Agnes Kawila Mulewa, Timothy Kyalo Mwange, and Christopher Okumu Ombunya to three key positions in the county government following a Special Sitting held on Tuesday.
The approvals were based on a report by the Assembly’s Committee on Appointments after a vetting exercise conducted earlier last week. The Special Sitting was convened through Gazette Notice No. 836.

First to receive the House’s nod was Christopher Okumu Ombunya, who was approved for appointment as Secretary to the Kitui County Public Service Board (CPSB). While moving the motion, Kauwi MCA and Minority Whip Hon. Gabriel Mutunga Munyao told the House that Ombunya met all the statutory and professional requirements for the position, noting that he is a Certified Public Secretary of good standing.

The Assembly also approved Timothy Kyalo Mwange for appointment as County Attorney. Minority Leader and Nguni MCA Hon. Jeremiah Musee Mutua said the nominee demonstrated a distinguished career spanning both public and private sectors and had satisfied all legal requirements under the Office of the County Attorney Act, 2020.

The third nominee, Agnes Kawila Mulewa, was cleared for appointment as County Secretary. Majority Leader and Migwani MCA Hon. Harrison Maluki Mawia said Mulewa had demonstrated a strong track record in public service and met the qualifications required for the position.
Members across the political divide supported the committee’s recommendations, paving the way for the three nominees to assume office. However, several MCAs urged the appointing authority to ensure equitable regional representation in future appointments, calling for a fair balance across Kitui’s eight sub-counties and wards.

Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, who also chairs the Committee on Appointments, congratulated the nominees and challenged them to serve the people of Kitui with integrity, professionalism, and commitment once formally appointed.
The approved names will now be forwarded to Governor H.E. Julius Malombe for formal appointment.
