Panic and disbelief gripped Kanyonyoo in Kitui Rural Constituency last night after a police officer based at Kanyonyoo Police Station shot and killed two women in cold blood within Kanyonyoo Market.

According to a local source who spoke to Channel 15 News on phone, the officer had been romantically involved with one of the victims and had been cohabiting with her inside the camp. The motive behind the deadly shooting remains unknown.

“It happened at around 11 PM as bars were closing . He was living with the woman inside the police quarters but trailed his partner where she was working, shooting her together with a friend as she tried to take cover behind her. What sparked the shooting is still a mystery, but both women were killed instantly,” the source revealed.

The incident, which has thrown the quiet Lower Yatta area into mourning, is being treated as a double homicide. Detectives from Kitui are already on the ground investigating the circumstances surrounding the shocking killings.

The identity of the officer and the victims has not yet been disclosed as authorities work to notify the next of kin.

Scenes from the area paint a grim picture, with police having sealed off the site as investigations intensify.

Residents, stunned by the brutality, have expressed outrage and fear, calling for immediate answers and justice.

“It’s terrifying. A police officer — someone meant to protect us — has turned into a killer. We need to know what happened,” said a resident who gathered near the scene.

Police headquarters have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

This is a developing story. Channel 15 News will continue to monitor the situation and provide timely updates
