A heavy cloud of fear and political tension is hanging over Machakos County following the mysterious disappearance of Muthwani Ward MCA Dominic Maitha, who has been missing for over 24 hours under circumstances colleagues now describe as suspicious and politically motivated.

According to local media reports, Maitha vanished just days after publicly declaring his intention to table an impeachment motion against Governor Wavinya Ndeti over alleged corruption, misuse of public funds, and attempts to unseat the Machakos County Assembly Speaker Ann Kiusya.

Fellow MCAs, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that Maitha had in recent days been receiving threats after accusing Governor Ndeti of bribing MCAs to shield herself from accountability and plotting to oust Speaker Kiusya.
Last week, the outspoken Maitha referenced the impeachment of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, boldly stating that “no leader is untouchable” and that Machakos would set another precedent if Ndeti did not come clean on the Ksh 800 million Machakos Youth Service (MYS) project, which he termed as a scandalous scheme to loot public funds.
“He was determined to expose the rot. The MYS project stinks of corruption, and Dominic had vowed to fight until someone takes responsibility. Now he has mysteriously disappeared,” lamented one worried MCA.
The disappearance has sparked panic in the county assembly, with MCAs openly pointing fingers at the county executive. “We demand immediate action from security agencies. We believe the county government knows where our colleague is,” one of the MCAs told Channel 15 News.
The matter has further escalated ongoing political tensions, especially after reports emerged that over 30 MCAs had retreated to Mombasa, allegedly to finalize strategies ahead of a vote on Speaker Kiusya’s impeachment — a process Maitha had claimed was being bankrolled by the governor herself.
The situation now threatens to plunge Machakos into a full-blown political crisis, with fears that Maitha’s disappearance could mark the beginning of a dark chapter of intimidation and targeted attacks on dissenting leaders.

Meanwhile, family members and friends continue to appeal for help in tracing the missing MCA, as pressure mounts on police and investigative agencies to swing into action before the worst is confirmed.
“This is no longer politics. Someone’s life is at stake. We must find Dominic,” a concerned relative said.
The governor’s office is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
This is a developing story…
