Kitui’s Dynamo FC secured an impressive victory in the FKF Division One, Eastern Zone A opener, defeating Kajiado FC with two second-half goals. The match, which took place at Kitui Stadium, saw Dynamo collect all three points and maintain a clean sheet to kick off their season on a high note.

However, the focus quickly shifted from the victory to the dilapidated state of Kitui Stadium. Football stakeholders and fans who attended the match expressed their frustration over the stadium’s poor condition. With only one shade under construction and the dressing rooms and washrooms in a dire state, many questioned why the home ground of Dynamo FC has been left in such neglect.

Speaking to Channel 15 Sports Desk, one passionate fan lamented the condition of the stadium, saying, “This is the only stadium in Kitui Central Business District where families and football lovers can converge on weekends to enjoy this beautiful game. But look at the state it is in.”

A closer inspection by Channel 15 Sports confirmed that the stalled construction work, including a partially completed spectator shade, has left the stadium in disrepair for over two years.

Football fans and stakeholders alike have called on the Kitui County Government to fast-track improvements to the stadium, emphasizing the need for modern, well-maintained facilities to match the growing interest in football in the region.

Dynamo’s win over Kajiado FC comes as a bright spot in the season opener, but the conversation around the state of local sports infrastructure looms large. With the FKF Division One league serving as the third tier in Kenya’s football system, many argue that adequate facilities are crucial for the development of local talent and the growth of the sport in Kitui.

The FKF Division One, founded in 2012, operates a promotion and relegation system with the National Super League and the Provincial League. It consists of mostly semi-professional teams, with some fully professional or amateur clubs. For Kitui to make its mark, fans believe, a top-notch stadium is essential.
