The Speaker has gazetted a Special Sitting on January 20, 2025, to table nominees for a Selection Panel to fill top county positions. However, this move is overshadowed by the chaos that unfolded in the Assembly late last year when Finance Minister Peter Mwikya Kilonzo survived an impeachment attempt that failed to secure a seconder.
The fallout from that botched impeachment has been brutal. Governor Julius Malombe has publicly demanded an apology from Kinengo, accusing the Assembly of plotting to sabotage his administration. At the same time, whispers of impeachment against Kinengo himself are growing louder, with a section of MCAs reportedly mobilizing to oust him.
