    Kitui Journalist Beaten Like Burukenge By Police, Seriously Injured While Covering A Protest In Mutonguni Boy’s High School

    Police in Kitui West Sub-County are investigating a case where atleast three journalists were seriously Injured at Mutonguni Boy’s High School while covering a protest during ushering in ceremony of a new principal which parents were against, following a series of poor performances in national exams.

    A section of kitui based journalist who were assaulted by police in Mutonguni today while covering a protest.

    Members of the press Musembi Nzengu, Titus Kavinga of Ngumbau Tv and Ida Ngile of Mumo Tv were assaulted while covering the arrival of a new school principal associated with series of poor performances and induction cases by TSC.

    Kitui Star Star Correspdent Musembi Nzegu told Channnel 15 News he was thrown to the ground and beaten by an officer him while trying to help an expectant colleague who was caught in the scuffle.

    Two members of the Fourth Estate were also arrested by the said police officers and booked in at Ndolos Corner Police Station for causing disturbance.

    The protest had been organized by a section of the parents led by area MCA Hon Benjamin Kiluma, an old boy of the school and who are said to have disapproved the take over by the new principal over poor performance. 

    Journalist were not allowed into the school compound and were confronted by a police officer who ordered them out of the compound after the journalist vowed to continue with the coverage.

    During the scuffle , an expectant journalist from a local Tv Station was seriously hurt.

    County Police Commander intervened after he was called by one of the journalist to have them released from the station they were being held at.

    Following the scuffle, the handover exercise was postponed for a period of two weeks. Teachers Service Commission Kitui branch has since been notified of the new unfolding .
