The Marian National Shrine in Subukia was a vibrant hub of faith and fellowship on November 30, 2024, as Catholic youths from across Kenya gathered for the Annual Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) National Youth Convention.
The event brought together thousands of young Catholics from different dioceses, united by a shared purpose to celebrate their faith, reflect on their roles in society, and foster deeper spiritual growth. Prominent youth movements, including the National Movement of Catholic Students (NMCS) and the Kenya Young Catholic Students (KYCS), were present, reinforcing the Church’s commitment to empowering young people.
The convention’s highlight was a Holy Mass celebrated by Rt. Rev. Peter Kimani, assisted by Rt. Rev. Joseph Mwongela and Rt. Rev. Wallace Ng’ang’a, who delivered uplifting messages that resonated deeply with the congregation. The Ecclesiastical Province of Kisumu animated the Mass, blending soulful hymns and traditional liturgical styles that added a unique vibrancy to the spiritual gathering.
In a moment many called divine, the Mass concluded with rain showers, symbolizing blessings and renewal. “This rain is a sign that God is with us as we step into the future with hope and faith,” shared a participant from Machakos Diocese.
The convention also served as a platform for young Catholics to discuss their roles in fostering moral leadership, strengthening community bonds, and addressing societal challenges through Christian values.
The Marian National Shrine in Subukia, renowned as a site of spiritual significance, once again proved to be a fitting venue for this annual event, emphasizing the unity and vitality of Kenya’s Catholic youth. As they departed, the participants carried with them a renewed sense of purpose, ready to be agents of change in both the Church and the nation.
