An online opinion poll conducted on Mwingi North Updates and Scorecard has stirred fresh debate on the Kitui gubernatorial race, placing Dr. Irene Kasalu firmly ahead of her rivals as the county gears up for the 2027 elections.
The poll, which sampled 222 respondents, shows Kasalu commanding a strong lead with 105 votes, followed by Senator Enoch Kiio Wambua (CBS) at 63 votes, and Dr. Makali Mulu at 36 votes. Former Governor Dr. Charity Ngilu and Nicholas Mulila tied at 7 votes each, while a lighthearted entry, “A Mosquito,” garnered 4 votes in protest.

The results highlight growing support for Kasalu in Mwingi North, signaling early momentum for her bid to succeed Governor Julius Malombe in 2027.
Previous Polls Reflect Similar Pattern
This latest survey reinforces a trend observed in previous online polls. A Channel 15 Digital News poll with 1,511 respondents placed Kasalu at 48.3%, far ahead of Wambua (32.9%) and Mulu (8.5%). Similarly, a Newsline poll gave her 61%, and an Instagram poll of nearly 1,600 votes had her at 48.6%. An earlier Facebook survey reportedly handed her a commanding 72% lead.
Political analysts argue that while online polls are not fully representative, the consistency of Kasalu’s dominance across platforms is telling. Her development record—especially in water projects, education, and women empowerment—is seen as a key factor bolstering her popularity.
Still, with three years to the election, shifting alliances, party primaries, and voter turnout will determine whether these early numbers translate into actual ballots.
