Police in Kabete have arrested a 41-year-old woman, Mary Ngina Maina, from Gakinduri village, Chura, following the shocking death of her 11-year-old daughter, Irene Waithera.

According to preliminary reports, the minor is believed to have been strangled with a belt inside their home. Neighbours told police that the suspect was earlier heard muttering strange words, including claims that “anaitishwa damu” — a statement that has fueled fears of a possible faith-related or ritual motive behind the killing.

Officers from Kabete Police Station have since taken the suspect into custody as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
