Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has publicly sought forgiveness from President William Ruto for comments he made during the heated 2022 election campaign. Mohamed, a close ally of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, admitted that his strong statements were driven by his loyalty to Odinga, whom he referred to as a father figure.
Speaking at a recent event, Junet acknowledged the harsh words exchanged during the campaign period but emphasized that they were made in the heat of the moment as he defended Raila Odinga. “Your people said a lot of things about Raila during the elections and I had to respond,” Junet stated, adding that the intensity of the political atmosphere sometimes led to words being said that were regrettable.
In a gesture of reconciliation, Junet expressed his desire to put the past behind and urged both sides to forgive each other. “Let us forgive each other from now on,” he said, signaling his willingness to move forward and foster unity in the country.
The comments come as the political landscape in Kenya continues to evolve, with leaders from various camps seeking to bridge the divides that were deepened during the election period. Junet’s appeal for forgiveness is seen as a significant step toward healing the rifts between the supporters of President Ruto and Raila Odinga.
