Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has rubbished claims that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is a political “project” of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, insisting that Matiang’i stands on his own merit as a party member with an impressive record.
Speaking on Monday, Kioni highlighted Matiang’i’s contributions to education reforms during his tenure in government, saying his credentials speak louder than political gossip. He further clarified that Jubilee’s 2027 presidential flagbearer will not be imposed through “boardroom deals” but will be democratically chosen by the party’s membership.

Kioni also used the moment to rally opposition to the Kenya Kwanza government, declaring that Jubilee, working alongside like-minded partners, has a duty to “rescue the country from the mismanagement of the current regime.”
His remarks come amid growing speculation within political circles about Matiang’i’s future role in national politics and Jubilee’s strategy ahead of 2027.
